Thursday Day
Prepare Eiruv Tavshilin
Because of Shabbat falling right on the second day of yom tov this year, we perform the mitzvah of eruv tavshilin. Eruv tavshilin is a halachik tool that allows one do some cooking for Shabbat while on Yom Tov by mixing together our Shabbat and Yom Tov cooking. One prepares some cooked food (for example, matzah and an egg) at the beginning of Yom Tov to be eaten on Shabbat. Then, one recites: “Baruch Ata Adonai Eloheinu Melech Ha’Olam Asher Kideshanu Be’mitzvotav Ve’tzivanu Al Mitzvat Eruv.” After reciting the blessing, one should say: “With this Eruv, we shall be permitted to bake, cook, light candles, and do anything necessary on Yom Tov for Shabbat.” One then saves the food and (preferably) eats them on Shabbat night or any other time on Shabbat.
Rabbi Hart will also do an eruv tavshilin for the whole community. Members may rely upon this eruv.
